1. Introduction

The Journal of Global Research in Multidisciplinary Studies (JGRMS) is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in scholarly publishing. Authorship carries both credit and responsibility. Every person listed as an author must have made a meaningful intellectual contribution to the research and must be able to take public responsibility for the content of the manuscript.

This policy outlines the criteria for authorship, contributor responsibilities, changes to authorship, and the disclosure of contributions to ensure fairness and ethical publishing practices.

2. Authorship Criteria

To qualify as an author, each individual should have made substantial scholarly contributions to the work and should meet all of the following criteria:

  • Made a significant contribution to the conception or design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data.
  • Participated in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
  • Approved the final version of the manuscript before submission and publication.
  • Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to cooperate in resolving questions related to its accuracy or integrity.

Individuals who do not meet these criteria should not be listed as authors.

3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria.
  • Obtaining approval from all co-authors before submission.
  • Managing all communication with the Editorial Office.
  • Responding to reviewers' comments and editorial queries.
  • Ensuring that all required declarations, permissions, and disclosures are complete and accurate.
  • Coordinating any post-publication communication.

The corresponding author acts on behalf of all co-authors during the editorial and publication process.

4. Contributions of Authors

JGRMS encourages authors to clearly describe each author's contribution to the work. Contributions may include activities such as:

  • Conceptualization
  • Methodology
  • Investigation
  • Data collection
  • Data analysis
  • Software development
  • Validation
  • Visualization
  • Writing – original draft
  • Writing – review and editing
  • Supervision
  • Project administration
  • Funding acquisition

Including an Author Contributions Statement enhances transparency and helps readers understand each author's role.

5. Acknowledgements

Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged in an Acknowledgements section.

Examples include:

  • Technical assistance
  • Language editing
  • Administrative support
  • Statistical advice
  • General supervision
  • Financial or logistical support

Authors should obtain permission from acknowledged individuals before including their names.

6. Equal Contribution

If two or more authors contributed equally to the work, this should be clearly stated in the manuscript.

Example:

These authors contributed equally to this work.

7. Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must:

  • Be submitted in writing by the corresponding author.
  • Include a detailed explanation for the requested change.
  • Include written agreement from all authors, including any author being added or removed.

After acceptance or publication, authorship changes will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and may require additional documentation.

8. Prohibited Authorship Practices

The following practices are considered unethical and are not permitted:

Gift (Honorary) Authorship

Listing an individual as an author who has not made a substantial scholarly contribution.

Ghost Authorship

Failing to acknowledge an individual who made a significant contribution and should qualify as an author.

Guest Authorship

Including a well-known researcher or senior academic solely to increase the likelihood of publication or prestige.

Purchased Authorship

Offering or accepting authorship in exchange for financial or other personal benefits.

Any confirmed violation may result in rejection of the manuscript or retraction of a published article.

9. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, including generative AI tools and large language models, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

AI tools:

  • Cannot accept responsibility for the work.
  • Cannot approve the manuscript.
  • Cannot disclose conflicts of interest.
  • Cannot hold copyright.

If AI tools are used in manuscript preparation beyond routine language correction, their use should be disclosed in accordance with the journal's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.

10. Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, institutional, or other relationships that could influence the interpretation or presentation of the research.

If no conflicts exist, authors should include the statement:

The authors declare that they have no competing interests.

11. Funding Disclosure

Authors should identify all sources of financial support for the research, including:

  • Funding organizations
  • Grant numbers (where applicable)
  • Sponsoring institutions

If the research received no external funding, authors may state:

This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

12. Responsibility for the Published Work

All authors share responsibility for:

  • The originality of the manuscript.
  • The accuracy of the data.
  • The integrity of the research.
  • Compliance with ethical standards.
  • Proper citation of sources.
  • Obtaining necessary permissions.
  • Responding to post-publication questions regarding the work.

Authors should cooperate with the journal if corrections, clarifications, or investigations become necessary.

13. Disputes Concerning Authorship

JGRMS does not determine ownership of research or resolve disputes over authorship.

If an authorship dispute arises:

  • The editorial process may be suspended until the dispute is resolved.
  • Authors may be asked to obtain a resolution through their institution(s).
  • The journal may request supporting documentation.
  • Editorial decisions will be based on the information provided and the journal's ethical policies.

14. Policy Review

This Authorship Policy may be updated periodically to reflect developments in publication ethics and scholarly publishing standards. The current version will always be available on the journal website.

Recommended Author Contributions Statement

Authors are encouraged to include a statement similar to the following:

Author Contributions: A.B. conceived the study. A.B. and C.D. collected and analyzed the data. E.F. prepared the initial manuscript draft. All authors reviewed, revised, and approved the final manuscript and agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work.
